drop

Description...

Introduction

Drop is a drawing app designed to help artists warm-up, get inspired, and loosen up a little; encouraging them to benefit from the joy and therapy of drawing regularly, even if quickly or roughly. Drop offers daily curated art prompts that users can respond to by making a drop (drawing alone) or by diving into the pool (drawing with everyone). I wanted to make something that could help artists reconnect with the part of them that fell in love with drawing, before the personal, financial and social pressures.

Interviews

I interviewed six artists about their habits and philosophies around drawing and the experience of being an artist today. My role was to stay impartial, help the interviewee feel at ease and ask open-ended questions in order to gather reliable evidence for my research.

Insights

My conversations with these thoughtful artists unveiled numerous pain points and interesting discoveries, from which I extracted six meta insights.

Opportunities

I chose to focus on three of the meta insights and reframed them as actionable statements, identifying opportunities for intervention and problems that my product could help solve. I began sketching ideas based on those statements.

Low-fidelity prototypes

I prepared five simple prototypes of various products with the aim of testing vastly different features to see what ideas will resonate with users and respond to their needs the most.

User tests

I tested the prototypes with four people with varying degrees of interest and proficiency in drawing.

Selected prototypes & key takeaways

These two prototypes were the most popular among my users. I gathered three key takeaways from their feedback to keep in mind for the next phase of development.

Mid-fidelity prototypes

I created more advanced and detailed versions of the previously selected prototypes.

User tests

I conducted another round of testing, once again with drawing enthusiasts of different levels.

Selected prototype & key takeaways

Users agreed that the Daily Prompts product provided the most complete experience with both its single and communal drawing modes, which they considered MVP features. I derived two key takeaways from their notes to guide the final phases of development.

Presentation

AIGA NY Fresh Grad

I had the honor of being selected to represent my program and showcase Drop at AIGA NY's Fresh Grad event in June of 2024. Here's a recording of that presentation for a 5min rundown of this project!

tutor orial

Description...

Introduction

Tutor Orial is an online tutor booking service that was experiencing low completion rates on its website, as well as complaints about the booking process. I aimed to amend these matters by re-imagining Tutor Orial's brand identity, mission and interface. The new and improved Tutor Orial embodies the idea that learning can and should be fun, with various interactions and an experience that challenges the conventions of typical academic platforms.

Heuristic principles

I examined the service's sign-up flow based on the ten usability heuristics of user interface design in order to identify users' potential pain points with it.

Problem discovery

The heuristic analysis revealed four main usability challenges with the current version of Tutor Orial. These key findings will inform the next phases of development.

Key takeaways

I derived from the user tests five important notes to keep in mind when creating the high-fidelity prototype.

Branding
  • Logo

Throughout the testing, users expressed the need for a feeling of credibility and trustworthiness. A sober sans-serif typeface contrasts with the swirl of Orial's eye to establish a brand identity that is as serious as it is light-hearted.

  • Mascot

Colleges and mascots go hand-in-hand. The language learning tool Duolingo is a successful example of adapting this idea for digital educational spaces. I wanted Orial's design to, like the logo, combine angular elements with curved ones. The result is an abstract, friendly yet mysterious figure.

  • Colors

A blue palette serves to anchor users in this new experience by setting a visual tone that feels familiar to educational institutions.

  • Components

These are some of Tutor Orial's spare parts like buttons, speech boxes and templates.

Introduction

Smash is a gym in Mansourieh, Lebanon that was looking to redefine their visual identity to better reflect their brand values and attract new customers. They were also looking to establish a social media presence for the business. Best of all, they wanted to makeover the interior of the fitness center, which we decked out with fresh paint and sick vinyl wall graphics.

dammeh

Description...

Introduction

Dammeh (meaning Hug or Embrace in Arabic) is a collection of eleven profoundly moving and at times dark short stories written by renowned Lebanese author Zeinab Charafeddine. The stories find human beings wrestling with life's great passages and challenges, and play with the boundaries between imagination, memory and realism. Big hug to Snoubar Bayrout and to Zeinab for prioritizing a sensitive approach to creating this book and for trusting me with interpreting her vulnerable writings into an object to complement their beauty and thoughtfulness.
